Code of Conduct: Recommendations
Our research drives the following recommendations:
- Manage code of conducts centrally
- Gain endorsement of senior management
- Review and update regularly; at least every two years
- Enable easy access to the code, related documents and key people
- Encourage input from experts and specialists, but do not let them write the code
- Index the code precisely: tables of contents, references and subject index
- Write in clear, concise and precise language
- Design the layout of code: use text, space and images with care
- Provide links to other policies, websites and people where required
- Ensure the code is linked to the business values and purpose throughout the document
- Focus on values and principles, rather than just rules
- Describe expectations of individuals clearly throughout the document
